Erica is...
a community enthusiast, world traveler, and loud laugher.
Her life took a turn for the extraordinary when she decided to finish up her design degree “on an adventure” in Qatar - a country she knew nothing about. That year spent in the Middle East turned out to be the best of her life and she was addicted to the idea of exploring more places unknown to her. She ended up teaching English in rural Thailand and South Korea, farming on the tiny Caribbean island of St Vincent, in Zambia, and on a sustainable living facility in Costa Rica.
After years of living around the world, Erica made her way back to the states and promptly landed a remote job as the first full-time employee working for the big budget travel blogger and NYT best selling author Nomadic Matt. Working from her laptop afforded her opportunities to travel anytime she wanted. She spent long stints working from Dubai, Vietnam, Thailand, South Africa, Qatar, and a yoga retreat in Cambodia. She’s been to almost 50 countries, has lived in 6, and attended weddings in 9.
Her job has twisted and shifted over the years as the 2-person run blog has grown to 8 full-time employees + a slew of freelancers. She has had a hand in the creation of blogs, guidebooks, online courses, a huge travel media conference, a non-profit that sent 6 high school classes overseas, and the structuring (and restructuring) of a growing company.
Since 2019, Erica has created and runs Nomadic Matt’s Nomadic Network. This is a standalone community for people who want to connect with other travelers and learn from them. We have chapters all over the country (and world) that meet monthly to connect to other travel enthusiasts nearby. To date, we have hosted over 400 virtual events, 200 live meetups, and 18 monthly book clubs where the author joins us. We have grown to company with 3 full-time staff members, 8 event hosts, 55 chapter leaders, over 175 speakers, and a ton of volunteers. Erica pours her heart and soul into creating the kind of community that is a springboard for people to use to get them on the road in ways they never thought they could. She is committed to making sure that every step of the way is a win-win-win scenario for everyone involved. Her goal for people that interact with The Nomadic Network is to create the kind of space that allows people to share vividly and wildly about their travels in a way that lights others up. Too often do we dim ourselves in the presence of others. It’s time to let ourselves shine so people around us have permission to do the same.
Erica’s spoken on podcasts, at conferences, and at hundreds of (virtual and in-person) events over the years. Her expertise lies primarily in community building, relationship management, and leadership.
Aside from traveling, Erica is passionate about using dating apps correctly (she even wrote a course on this), dating well, transformational learning and empowerment, fixing women’s periods (especially when it feels like there’s no way to), creating good relationships, new motherhood, entrepreneurship, and anything she loves and wants to share about.
